On a visit to the Longshed in Woodbridge to see the reconstruction of the Sutton Hoo Ship, I happened upon their merchandise stalls outside, one of which was selling soap. Given my interests, of course I was curious.
When I picked it up and smelt it, I was immediately taken by its unique scent of wood, almost campfire-like, likely due to the green oak and pine tar. It is warm and comforting, especially given my love for the Anglo Saxon era and reenactment. It encapsulates the smell of the Longshed and the ship very well.
When used it fills my barely awoken mind with thoughts and memories of my time spent in local woodlands, wood workshops, and camping sites. It’s warm and inviting in the same way an old long house or a forest with sunbeams casting through the trees is.
The soap can leave a slight black residue which washes down the drain with a rinse.
