Low Waste Wares

A few years ago I became interested in sustainability, as many are. Now, I’m on a slow but steady way to reduce my plastic waste and buy more items for life long use.

On this page you will find the consumable items, those I use and need to refill or replace.

Body Soap

When I first joined the gym, I got a voucher for free solid soaps (just pay for shipping) and I thought I’d at least give them a go. I was trying to find my own way in the adult world anyway so this action was small but symbolic.

I was hooked. I loved that the soap didn’t make me feel slick and slimy, and they came in entirely carboard and paper packaging – no plastic whatsoever. This kicked off my entire zero plastic journey.

I can’t comment on their application for those with sensitive or otherwise delicate skin. Please try with caution, and find what works for you! Many of these producers have options that might suit you better.

Shampoo

Similarly to body soap, shampoo bars came to me with a set of soaps when I got a voucher.

My hair can get quite greasy so the shampoo needs to be able to handle that well with bonus points if my hair feels great and remains clean for a good amount of time.

Deodorant

Deodorant is an integral part of most people’s hygiene routines and is one of the things I’m still exploring greatly.

I decided to come off aerosols a while ago due to my asthma, and I didn’t really like the idea of having it in my lungs. Initially I moved to rollerball and found my, to this day, favourite scent. However this was not refillable and as someone who is trying to reduce their plastic waste, I opted to continue on and explore solid options. Did you know they they don’t just come in refillable sticks, but also tins and jars of paste?

Cologne

Solid colognes are practically unheard of and often gain interesting looks when shown off.

I started using solid colognes in the middle of 2024 after deciding to cut back on expensive, heavy glass spray bottles. The scents they offered were great, but it was time to try something new and more like me. I decided to go with a solid option.

Solid Colognes are smaller and lighter, often cheaper, aren’t sprayed so are great for those who have lung conditions (like myself with asthma) and come in stronger containers that won’t shatter or leak.

Lip Balm

Lip balm has only recently been added to my list of things I use thanks to my fiancée, and from the get-go I wanted to go for something sustainable knowing tins already existed.
